I am Anyaji Daniel Chukwudiebube, a graduate of Accounting Education from the Faculty of Education, and I emerged the best graduating student in both my department and my faculty with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.90. I didn't just pass through LASU, I set a standard of excellence there. My time on campus was a period of real personal transformation, one that strengthened my discipline, deepened my interest in accounting and finance, and turned my potential into proven excellence.
Achieving that result wasn't about intelligence alone, it reflected years of discipline, consistency, sacrifice, and a refusal to lower my standard despite the pressures of university life. I volunteered with Green Janitors on environmental projects like "Clean Lagos," and tutored with Edge Insight, helping students better understand their coursework. My hardest stretch came from financial pressure, which I met by organising personal tutorials for coursemates, teaching in primary and secondary schools, and even working at a bread factory during my first semester of 300 level, a semester in which I still finished with a perfect 5.0 GPA.
Difficult circumstances, I learned, do not have to limit how high you can rise. LASU taught me that success isn't always about ideal conditions, sometimes it's about making the most of whatever you have, staying focused, and refusing to quit. That mindset carried me to winning the ICAN Diamond Scholarship, which has played a significant role in my journey toward becoming a qualified chartered accountant.
Being the first university graduate in my family tree has been my biggest source of inspiration. I always understood that my journey was bigger than me, that my success could open a new chapter for my family and prove our background never had to limit our possibilities. The desire to make them proud kept me going through every difficult season.
My advice to current and incoming students is to understand that excellence is built through consistency, discipline, and intentional effort, set clear goals early, and don't wait until exams are close before taking your studies seriously. As I remind myself constantly: give it what it takes, not merely your best, because sometimes your best may not be enough.
