I am Olaniyi Mubarak Olawale, a graduate of Accounting Education from the Faculty of Education. I closed out my studies with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.98 out of 5.00, a result that made me the overall best graduating student of the 2022/2023 academic session, standing out among 8,670 graduating students that year.
My story did not begin from a place of comfort. I am the son of a wood seller, and I lost my mother while I was still young. Growing up, resources were never in abundance, but I learned early that a difficult beginning does not have to determine how far a person can go.
There is a stereotype that education courses are reserved for less intelligent students, a misconception I carried into my own faculty at some point. I made it my mission to challenge that narrative through my results, proving that dedication and consistent hard work matter far more than whichever course of study one finds themselves in.
At our convocation ceremony, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu personally recognised my academic performance and awarded me a cash prize of ten million naira, a gesture I remain deeply grateful for. It was a moment that validated years of quiet, unglamorous effort, and one I could never have imagined as a boy watching my father sell wood to keep our family afloat.
My journey through LASU has taught me that perseverance outlasts circumstance. I carry my background not as a burden but as the foundation of my resilience, and I hope my story encourages anyone who feels their beginnings are too humble to dream of ending up somewhere remarkable.
