I am Abdulrahman Adam Adio, a graduate of Mechanical Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering. Looking back, my journey through LASU was fulfilling, and I'm proudest of being named a Lagos State Youth Ambassador, a recognition that felt like a real affirmation of everything I'd put into serving beyond my own department.
My leadership footprint on campus was extensive. I served as a Member of the 33rd and 35th LASUSU-SPC, Deputy Speaker of the 25th Engineering Student Parliamentary Council, and a Member of the ESPC across four consecutive administrations, alongside serving as General Secretary of NIMECHE-LASU in 2022 and Editor-in-Chief of MSSN LASU Epe for two sessions running. I also chaired the MSSN Islamic Propagation Week, the Inter-departmental Debate Committee, the Public Speaking Training Committee, and the LASUSU Orientation Week Committee, managed projects including TechVis 2024 and the NUESA LASU Tech Expo 1.0, and served as a Campus Ambassador for both Cowrywise and Klever.
Almost none of my real difficulty came from academics, it came from simply managing the hundreds of things I had going on at once. I got through it by over-planning obsessively, constantly planning, unplanning, and replanning to keep a routine that stayed clear but flexible enough to bend when it needed to. LASU taught me that you can genuinely do whatever it is you set your mind to.
I've been my own biggest source of inspiration through all of this. Along the way I picked up recognition as a Pioneer Lead and Member of the Millennium Campus Fellowship Class of 2024, a Vice Chancellor's Scholarship in 2023, Member of the Year with the LASU Debate Society, a Political Icon title within the Mechanical Engineering Department, and multiple debate wins and runner-up finishes, including the YABATECH inter-campus debate competition and WordWar VI.
My plans going forward point straight into the engineering field, and in five years I see myself as a manager in a top engineering firm. My advice to current and incoming students is that school has a lot to offer beyond academics, explore it socially, professionally, and spiritually if you're a believer, because the experiences and memories you build, not just the grades, are what really set your ball rolling afterward. As I remind myself often: prior proper preparation prevents poor performance, never be caught unfresh.
