I am Adedeji Fathia Adewunmi, a graduate of the Faculty of Law with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.80. My journey through LASU was filled with things I never imagined could happen, both good and bad, a stretch that challenged me in ways I didn't anticipate while also giving me space to grow, learn, and discover myself, and I was fortunate to be surrounded by people who made it easier to navigate every high and low.
The achievement I'm proudest of is not compromising on my values. They matter deeply to me, and there were moments when they were genuinely put to the test, but each time I was able to remind myself why they mattered and stay true to them. I was actively involved in the Tax Club, LASU, serving as Deputy Director of Research in 300 Level, General Secretary in 400 Level, and eventually President in 500 Level, where I helped organise the club's Tax Week, a career advancement webinar, and a study tour to the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service.
I'm more of an audio learner, so I made it a priority to attend nearly every class, and I didn't get involved in extracurricular activities until 300 Level, once I felt familiar enough with the system to balance them without falling short academically. I'm not the most social person, so I kept my socialising fairly measured and stayed intentional about not taking on more than I could handle. One lesson LASU taught me is to trust myself and speak up when necessary, even when staying silent would have been more convenient.
My family has been my biggest source of inspiration throughout this journey. Alongside graduating top of my class, I was recognised as one of the 30 Most Reputable LASU Law Students, received an Award of Service from the Tax Club, LASU, and was awarded five undergraduate scholarships during my time at LASU.
My advice to current and incoming students is to set a goal for yourself and try your best not to lose sight of it, and if a method has always worked for you, stick to it. Most importantly, don't let anyone speak fears into your plans, whatever you want is achievable. As I remind myself often: the size of your dreams must always exceed your current capacity to achieve them, if your dreams don't scare you, they aren't big enough.
