I am Adedokun Balikis Omowunmi, a graduate of the Faculty of Communications and Media Studies. Looking back, I'd describe my LASU journey as one filled with growth, learning, and resilience. It wasn't easy, entering university after being out of secondary school for almost four years made adjusting to academic life chaotic at first, with moments of self-doubt, but every challenge became an opportunity to grow, and my success story wouldn't be complete without LASU in it.
I'm proud to have completed my degree with a Second Class Upper, but beyond the result itself, I'm proud of the journey that led to it, returning to academics after nearly four years away and still finding my footing. LASU also helped me discover and develop my passion for content creation, and I was honoured to receive the Broadcaster of the Year award in 2024. I didn't hold a formal leadership position, choosing instead to organise content creation and podcast training sessions where I shared my skills and helped other students learn about digital content.
A major challenge came in 100 level, when I had to pass mathematics courses I was genuinely afraid of in both semesters. I attended extra classes every night and leaned on my friend and roommate for encouragement, and eventually passed, a reminder that fear can make challenges look bigger than they really are. Balancing academics with my growing passion for content creation was another challenge I managed through discipline, planning, and consistency.
My desire to become better and build a meaningful life for myself has been my biggest source of inspiration, alongside the people who encouraged and supported me during difficult moments. Something most people don't know about me is that I still struggle with social anxiety and get tense around large groups of people, though content creation has gradually helped me step out of my comfort zone and grow more confident.
My immediate plan is to complete my NYSC programme, gain more professional experience, and pursue a master's degree abroad. In five years, I see myself as a successful content creator and influencer with a strong personal brand, working within the creative industry, particularly in talent or influencer management, to help other creatives grow and connect with opportunities. My advice to current and incoming students: if it's worth doing, it's worth doing well, don't settle for mediocrity. Que sera, sera, whatever will be, will be.
