I am Adesoye Abdulsalam Afolabi, a graduate of Accounting in the Faculty of Management Sciences. My journey through LASU was challenging, rewarding, and full of growth, I knew I wanted to do well coming in, but I didn't fully understand how much discipline and consistency it would require.
Completing my Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting with Second Class Honours, Upper Division, is what I'm proudest of. I didn't have the best start, I was lazy, inconsistent, and lacked motivation, but the people around me who believed in my abilities carried me through, alongside completing the AATWA professional course, a tough path I only conquered through effort and strong desire. I didn't hold any leadership position during my time on campus, focusing instead on getting through the academics.
Short semesters, limited reading materials, and finding accommodation close to school in a good location were my biggest challenges, which I met by becoming more intentional with my time and studying whenever I had the opportunity. The importance of resilience is the lesson that will last a lifetime, things won't always go as planned, but what matters is how you respond and keep moving forward.
Every one of my course mates and close friends has been a source of inspiration, watching them pursue their dreams with genuine hard work and resilience pushed me to do the same.
My advice to current and incoming students is to take your academics seriously, but also remember to enjoy the university experience. As I remind myself often: keep breathing, no matter what.
