I am Clement Oluwafemi Abayomi, a graduate of the Department of English in the Faculty of Arts, with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.63. I would describe my journey through LASU as daring, and if I would point to any highlight, it's the fact that I finished top of my class, something that, at some point, I didn't even give much thought to. God made it possible.
I'm proud to have emerged Best Graduating Student of the Department of English, Class of 2025. I was a tutor at Young Grammarians' Hub, a grammar hub founded by Dr. Ganiu Bamgbose, and one of the executives of the Excel Minds Academic Group in LASU.
My challenges were mainly financial and emotional, which I overcame with the help of God and the support of my loved ones, and yes, I emerged victorious. I didn't engage much in social activities, devoting much of my time to my studies, though I worked tutorials around schedules that didn't affect my lectures. Just because you 'know' doesn't mean you know where you're going, calm down, but be smart, to get to that destination, a lesson I'll carry with me.
God has been my biggest source of inspiration, and He always will be. Along the way I won the Inkspired Chapbook Series Contest 2025 for my poetry collection titled UNTETHERED, the Association of Nigerian Authors, Kwara Chapter, Creative Writing Prize for Poetry 2024, and the Inaugural Bridgette James Poetry Competition 2024, and was second runner-up in the Annual Bridgette James Poetry Competition.
My advice to current and incoming students is to be humble, never listen to narratives that make the top feel impossible to reach, and above all, do not forget the place of God. As Shakespeare put it: to be or not to be, that is the question.
