I am Fasasi Mariam Oluwabukola, a graduate of the Department of Linguistics, African Languages and Communication Arts in the Faculty of Arts, with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.51. My journey through LASU was one of growth, patience, and determination. It wasn't always easy, I faced my share of challenges, but I stayed focused on my goals and trusted the process throughout.
Being recognised as Best Graduating Student in my department means a great deal to me, it reflects years of hard work, consistency, and faith held onto despite the obstacles along the way. I served as Chairperson of the 26th YOLSA Independent Electoral Committee, and beyond that recognition, I was honoured to receive the Gani Adams Foundation Scholarship Award on May 11, 2025.
One of my biggest challenges was navigating the demands of university life, especially during my final year project. There were moments of real pressure and uncertainty, but I stayed consistent, sought guidance whenever I needed it, and leaned on my faith throughout. I balanced academic excellence with everything else by prioritising my responsibilities and managing my time deliberately, rather than letting one side of my life crowd out the other.
My faith in Almighty Allah, my family, and successful individuals who studied my course have been my biggest sources of inspiration. The lesson I'll carry for life is that effort and consistency always pay off, regardless of the challenges in front of you, and staying committed to your goals even in difficult moments is what eventually leads to success.
My advice to current and incoming students is simple: put in your best effort, and don't let challenges discourage you. Believe in yourself, trust the process, and remember that hard work always pays off. As I remind myself often: pray always, consistency always pays off. I sincerely appreciate LASU, my parents, my department, my lecturers, my mentors, and everyone who supported me through this journey.
