I am Esther Olamide Odunjo, a graduate of English Education in the Faculty of Education. My journey at LASU was one of growth, service, and self-discovery, and beyond earning my degree, the university gave me real opportunities to develop as a leader, communicator, and creative.
Serving as General Secretary of Excel Minds Academic Group, a student organisation committed to promoting academic excellence through tutorials, mock examinations, and educational initiatives, is what I'm proudest of, an effort that earned me recognition as the group's Most Outstanding Administrative Executive. I also contributed to the organisation's publicity efforts, helping engage students through digital content.
Balancing academics with leadership responsibilities and extracurricular commitments was my biggest challenge, one that demanded discipline, effective time management, and constant prioritisation. Growth, I learned, comes from consistency and service, and success is never achieved overnight but built through continuous learning and resilience.
My own desire to keep growing and make a meaningful impact has driven me, alongside mentors and leaders who model excellence and integrity. Most people assume I'm outgoing because of the leadership roles I've held, but I'm naturally quiet and reserved when I first meet people, someone who takes time to warm up.
My advice to current and incoming students is not to wait until after graduation to start preparing for your future, build relevant skills, join student organisations, and learn to market yourself while you're still in school. As I remind myself often: consistency creates the opportunities that talent alone cannot.
