I am Ibrahim Damilola Otubanjo, a graduate of Accounting in the Faculty of Management Sciences, with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.82. My journey through LASU was very challenging, exciting, interesting, and life-changing, filled with tough times and crazy exams, but I tried to enjoy every bit of it.
Emerging as Best Graduating Student in the Department of Accounting with a First Class is what I'm proudest of, no easy feat, only I truly understand how much I worked, toiled at night, and disciplined myself to make it a reality. I was a member of Excel Minds Academic Group and The Tax Club LASU, and volunteered for programs like ABC 5.0, 6.0, and 7.0, among others.
Short semesters, limited reading materials, and the struggle to find good accommodation close to school were my biggest challenges, which I overcame by being diligent and strategic about my academics, improvising and managing wherever I could. Nothing beats excellence and discipline, a lesson I'll carry for life, whatever you find yourself doing, do it excellently. I was recognised as Best Student in the faculty after my first year.
My family has been my biggest source of inspiration, especially my Dad, who literally made everything possible for me and to whom I'll always be grateful.
My advice to current and incoming students is to study smartly, meet people, and read books that stimulate your mind and creativity, not just academic texts, and above all, pray. As Aristotle put it, excellence is not an act but a habit built through what we repeatedly do.
