I am Shoroye Oluwajuwonlo Ezekiel, a graduate of the Department of Philosophy in the Faculty of Arts. Looking back, my journey at LASU has been one of growth, resilience, and transformation, from my 100-level days to my final year, shaping my character and outlook on life through both pleasant and challenging moments.
Serving as President of my department's students' association, the National Association of Philosophy Students, LASU Chapter, is the achievement I value most, an experience that strengthened my leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities while teaching me the importance of selfless service. Before that role, I held several others, including Member of the Southwest NAPS Presidents, Assistant General Secretary of the 30th NAPS LASU, and a seat on the Finance and Budget Committee of the 32nd FASA LASU. I was also honoured to be invited by the University of Lagos as a distinguished speaker at its Faculty of Philosophy Freshers' Orientation programme.
My greatest challenge came in my 300-level first semester, when my CGPA began to decline unexpectedly. Rather than giving up, I reflected on my study habits, improved my time management, and became more intentional about balancing academics with my other responsibilities. I also contested and lost a Faculty of Arts election after investing enormous time and passion into the campaign, but with the support of family, friends, and mentors, I chose to see it as a lesson in resilience rather than a failure.
God has been my greatest source of inspiration, alongside my family and individuals like Victory Ashaka and Itunuoluwa Soniregun, whose unwavering support kept me pursuing excellence. Despite my confidence in public speaking and leadership, most people don't know that I naturally enjoy quiet moments of reflection and prayer, the discipline behind every achievement I've had.
My advice to current and incoming students is to remain resilient, disciplined, and committed to academic excellence, and to never let temporary setbacks define your future. As I remind myself constantly: with God on your side, victory remains inevitable.
