It's never too late for a 5.0, it just doesn't have to be your CGPA.
I am Akhaiyea Praise Orhijamehhe, a graduate of the Department of English in the Faculty of Arts. My journey through LASU was a stressful stretch, if I'm honest, but it was interesting all the same, the kind of experience that only makes sense looking back at it.
After trying for seven semesters straight, I finally landed a 5.0 GPA in one, and I suppose that counts as the achievement I'm proudest of. I was briefly an executive at Excel Minds Academic Group and volunteered for a handful of events and projects, but I never chased leadership for its own sake.
Making friends was my real challenge, and I won't pretend I overcame it in any dramatic way, I mostly played it safe. Still, I found ways to have meaningful, in-the-moment conversations with people, and joining a Book Club at some point turned out to be genuinely fun. LASU taught me to find strength in solitude while still seeking comfort in the right community, a balance I carry with me now.
God and my mother have been my biggest sources of inspiration throughout this whole stretch. Most people read me as proud, but the truth is I'm simply reserved, there's a difference, even if it doesn't always look like one from the outside.
As for what comes next, I'm mostly focused on living life. My advice to current and incoming students is that it's never too late for a 5.0, it just doesn't have to be your CGPA. Time will tell what the rest of this looks like.
