Make memories and, most importantly, stay focused on your goals.
I am Modupeoluwa Shelle, a graduate of the Department of English in the Faculty of Arts. I'd describe my journey through LASU simply as one walked with excellence and filled with victory stories, and beyond bagging a degree, I'm most proud of the lessons I learned and the experiences I gathered along the way.
I didn't take on formal leadership roles or major volunteer projects during school, choosing instead to focus that time on my studies and personal development, though I'm looking forward to getting more involved now that I've graduated. As an undergraduate, my short stories, including "Beneath the Umdlebe Tree, Or a Vegetable Love Story," received positive reviews across notable literary platforms, and my novella Love and Sprites was featured in Ankara Circle's Most Outstanding Stories category in 2024.
I faced plenty of challenges along the way, more than I can even recall clearly now, but I overcame them with God as my strength and fortress, my family and friends holding me up, and my own refusal to give up. One lesson LASU has taught me for life is that hard work, or even soft work, isn't enough without God behind it.
My biggest source of inspiration has been my own dreams and aspirations, the pull toward becoming who I'm meant to be. Something most people don't know about me is that I love art and fashion, a side of me that doesn't always come through in my writing.
After graduation, I plan to grow my career and travel more, soaking up every memory along the way. My advice to current and incoming students is to make memories and, most importantly, stay focused on your goals. As I remind myself often: there's no better you than the you that you already are.
